Who we are
At NatureLink, we help people reconnect with the natural world through playful, hands-on learning. We’re advocates of risky play, deep connection, and outdoor experiences that unlock each person’s unique potential. We believe that everyone has something to share, and with nature as our guide, we create the space to explore, learn, and grow.
Emma’s Journey
Hi, I’m Emma — founder of NatureLink.
Nature has always been my go-to when life gets overwhelming, confusing, or just too loud. Even as a child, I found joy in making mud pies, crafting with twigs, and imagining whole worlds from whatever was lying around.
I didn’t thrive on the sports field — I wheezed through community games while others raced ahead — but I came alive in the woods, especially as a Cub Scout. I didn’t know it then, but I had found my place: a mix of challenge and comfort, learning and laughter, hot chocolate by the fire and muddy boots under the stars.
At school, I struggled to keep up with the top of the class but thrived in creative subjects like Art, Drama and Cookery. Later, in college, I discovered that play is the foundation of learning — for animals and humans alike. I even wrote my thesis on “The Importance of Play in Education”, exploring thinkers like Piaget and Dorothy Heathcote.
When I found Forest School, it all clicked. I realised that being fully myself — creative, playful, curious — could be part of how I worked and led others. I didn’t need to force kids into a system; I could create the kind of environment where they (and I) could learn naturally.
How NatureLink Began
I started running art and nature workshops when my own children were small — mostly because I couldn’t afford to send them to all the afterschool activities I saw around me. If they were going to a camp, I was going to run it!
NatureLink started in late autumn — the Celtic festival of Samhain — with a group of adolescents and a lot of firewood. We built dens, played games, created charcoal art, made journey sticks, and burned a “wishing man” on our final day. The spark was lit — literally and metaphorically — and we’ve been growing ever since.
Our vision
NatureLink empowers people to connect with the outdoors through experiential, hands-on learning. Whether through camps, afterschool sessions, or one-off events, we tailor our approach to suit different ages, needs, and seasons.
We aim to give you:
The space to slow down, listen to yourself, and follow your own path
The confidence to explore and play in nature
The skills to build, create, and reflect
Our Commitment
We’re committed to best practices in outdoor learning — and to building a community of co-learners. We invest in regular training and support from organisations like the Irish Forest School Association, Crann Ireland, and the Heritage Council, so that we can offer you the best of what we know.
“Really enjoyable, lots of fun learning and play for all ages. Great to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors in all weather conditions.”
